Icarus
HALF SHARE in 2013 YWDB ‘ICARUS’ 673 - POA (OFFERS)

I am seeking a co-owner for Icarus, my 2013 GRP Simulated Clinker Dayboat, with Wooden Decks. Own a half share in a nearly new Dayboat, with a reduced purchase price, and costs split down the middle, and without the waiting time!

The ideal co-owner would want to keep her at Poole or Bosham (or anywhere in between!) and would look mainly to club race and/or cruise her. My work schedule is quite demanding, so I am mainly keen on Open and National events. A full agreement could be reached with interested parties, but essentially a co-ownership deal would see half the boat and inventory purchased outright, and all associated costs (maintenance, repairs, sails, storage, insurance, race certificate fees etc) split down the middle. Her inventory includes:

- Build by Chris Somner 2012-13, she was the last boat taken from the ‘old’ mould, and was trued, faired, and polished, before being used as the plug for the new (current) mould. She has a gleaming wooden deck (tiger sapele with light wood inlay on the foredeck), which has been professionally spray coated in two pack epoxy. No varnish!
- She was finished by myself and Chris Somner, and has a huge inventory of primarily top end Harken fittings, and exclusively Marlow rope.
- All control lines lead aft (split system accessible from either side, with an elastic take back system planned!)
- Flip flop blocks for the centreboard and forestay tension (can be controlled from anywhere on the boat).
- Shroud levers to let the rig forward
- Superspars mast
- Flyaway jib stick
- Handmade rudder. Made by former championship winner Colin Blewett, the rudder is so light, stiff, and well finished it’s a piece of art in it’s own right!
- Exposed Teak Rubbing Strake
- Fittings for turning the aft area into a sleeping platform for camping
- Integrated buoyancy with storage lockers
- Tacktick wireless solar powered micro compass
- Integrated self bailer
- 6’ Oars & Rowlocks, Anchor & Warp, Pumps etc (i.e. all running gear)
- Dick Batt racing sails, with spare set of MacNamara cruising/club racing sails
- Chris Somner road trailer with over specced wheels (for better towing at speed)
- Launching trolley with no-puncture foam rubber wheels
- All towing gear including lighting board, straps etc
- Rain & Sun breathable mast-up cover
- Rain & Sun undercover (always used, especially when towing)

Built & fitted out to my specification, Icarus achieved 2nd place at the 2013 Nationals, followed by a slew of front of fleet results, including some comprehensive race wins at the Bosham 2013 open, and wins in other races. Work issues left me unable to race her in 2014 (to date), however my crew, Adam Gray, successfully helmed her to 13th place at the Rock Nationals, winning the trophy for mentored pairs.

I am seeking a co-owner (or full sale) as she’s a beautiful boat, but an expensive asset to have sat in a boatyard while she could be out there sailing and being a well used Dayboat! She’s been maintained regardless of cost, and is an amazing example of a modern YWDB, with the classic look afforded by the wooden deck. She was featured in YBW as a show boat, and has twice been exhibited by the YWDB Association at the Dinghy Show. She has never been anti fouled, and the hull remains smooth.

If you are interested in a part share, please do get in touch. She’s currently lying in Shamrock Quay, Southampton. Her full retail price with the above inventory was £~17,500. Sensible offers that reflect the fact she is now a year old, but take into consideration her inventory and condition, would be welcomed.
