CAT | DB Week 2010
Well the week went by in a flash but then it was compressed from the usual 6 days sailing into 5. After a blustery start for the first two races on Sunday we had superb sunshine for the rest of the week even if the wind was on the light side until the final race on Thursday. The Long Distance race was cancelled by the Race Officer when there was no wind at the start time of 10:30.
The racing was dominated by James Hewitt and Rachel Bullingham sailing in DB 635 borrowed from Wendy Davies with four straight wins. For those interested in such facts James is only the second non PYC competitor to win the National Championship in a clinker type hull. ( The first was J. Harrison in DB 32 in the first championship in 1957).
The results for the weeks points racing can be seen by clicking here
And Wendy Davies has supplied a fine collection of photos of the 5th Points Race taken from the cruiser she and Roy had sailed round to Salcombe just in time for the Quiz Evening . They can be viewed here

Peter Hewitt who is liaising with Salcombe YC on behalf of the YWDB Assoc reports as below: -
“The last call we had from John Morrell was a bit of a bombshell. In a nutshell, the estuary is classed as an SSI with sea horses and rare molluscs so the Harbour Master cannot provide our usual trot. Neither John Morrell nor we had any inkling of this problem when we started talking in August. Other options to keep the boats afloat have been looked at, without success, so the only choice left to us is to “dry sail” from Batson.”

Salcombe is a very popular holiday centre and accomodation gets very booked up so it is a good idea to book as far ahead as possible.
