I had Spartan built as a kit by James & Caddy in Weymouth in 1959 at a cost of £100 I finished her myself and I think causes a bit of a stir as I did not fit side decks or flat floorboards. I omitted side decks as I and my crew were short & light so we were not at a disadvantage when sitting out no flat floorboards so I could see bilge water and remove it. Her first race was at the championship in Brixham when the whole Poole fleet was taken there & back by a RN landing ship. Spartan was so new that my wife and I spent the whole weekend before racing finishing the boat off and we were lucky enough to win the first race
