The attractions of sailing a DB at Bosham
Chichester Harbor with the Isle of Wight in the distance.
With 20 boats at the club, Bosham S C has the second largest fleet of Yachting World Dayboats in the UK. The YWDB is ideally suited to Chichester Harbour, it is close winded and with the weighted lifting centreplate provides excellent stability and performance across all wind ranges.
The YWDB’s form the largest fleet within the medium handicap section of the Classic Dayboats class. Within this class, which includes over 70 classic dinghies, there is a very active social scene for both racers and supporters with a full programme of racing, BBQ’s and dinners.
The club’s racing programme extends from March to December. In addition to the Saturday CDB racing and Sunday points race series, there are numerous special race events including: Annual Regatta, 3 Day Masters, Classic Dinghy Revival, Junior Week and class Open meetings.
A dinghy park with a capacity of 500 boats is situated a few minutes from the slipway and a YWDB can be easily moved between the two.
If preferred, there is the opportunity to keep a boat on a full tide mooring, with a club launch service available to get you to and back from your mooring.
The club sits at the head of Bosham Creek which, in turn leads into the main Chichester Harbour, one of the largest and most attractive stretches of semi enclosed waters in England. Beyond the Harbour lies the Eastern Solent and Isle of Wight both of which offer cruising opportunities to the more adventurous.
What Bosham S C has to offer
Bosham SC slipway and Raptackle starting platform
Bosham Sailing club’s location is uniquely beautiful. The 10th century church, historic quay, and full tidal access for launching dinghies makes Bosham the perfect place for sailing. The Grade Two Listed clubhouse, once an ancient water mill, is the ideal setting for the social side of sailing – watching the racing from our sunny terrace, chatting over a drink with friends and enjoying our excellent professionally staffed bar and restaurant.
The club provides an all year round social hub. In the winter months there is full catering from Thursdays to Sunday and a range of events and organized activities including: talks, bridge nights, Scottish dancing and film nights.
The club maintains a highly efficient and enthusiastic full time staff consisting of: club manager, two administration assistants, chef, club Bosun and launch driver.
To support the racing and other waterbased activities the club maintains a fleet of 5 ribs together with a committee boat and club launch.
An extensive training programme is run by the club throughout the year. Courses include: Power boat 2, Safety boat, RYA learn to sail, Women on water, VHF and Coastal skipper.
In summary, the club prides itself on being friendly, non stuffy and welcoming to all. Whilst the racing is taken seriously the social side is equally important.
